about

Say Goodbye To Grampa is the song featured on Working Class Hussys Music Vlog episode #12.

lyrics

Mama, say goodbye to grampa
now that he's gone and I am too far
to pay my final respects. But I don't harbor regrets.
He had it all, so why'd it hit so hard?
'Cause it's a loss
that we saw coming for so long.
I would have thought
the distance might help me stay strong.
And mama, let's remember grampa
saving the world, and as someone we hold
up as an example of a fallen hero
who grew to be old, and now on eternal patrol.
We would drive north every year to go and see a submarine
just like the one he served on so proudly.
He'd march along with his shipmates in a big parade,
and he'd salute, and we would wave.
And we knew that he was great.
But I'm stuck here in Tennessee, and I can't get home to be with family,
'cause I've gone broke chasing a dream, but I know that he would still be proud of me.
He'd say, "Don't waste anymore time grieving".
***
Pleasure comes when I remember
all the good times we shared while he was alive;
like all the tales that he told time, and time, and time, and time again,
and I would listen, or at least I'd pretend.
He would stand up at the dinner table and put on an act
where he'd play drunk, and we would laugh.
I will always cherish that!
But mama, send me a photograph of the funeral with a man playing "Taps".
I just saw him two weeks ago. He was fading out, but I held onto hope
that he would stick around 'til I came back home.
But I'm stuck here in Tennessee, and I can't get back to the family,
'cause I've gone broke chasing a dream, but I know that he would still be proud of me.
Yes, I know that he would still be proud of me,
but the road that leads home is out of reach.
Mama, don't blame Tennessee.
